My name is [Name] and I am an eighth grader at St. Paul School. I will be attending Bishop Lynch High School next year. My family has been active St. Paul parishioners since 1994. I received the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, Reconciliation, and Confirmation at St. Paul. If Father Petter and Father Flori weren't there, receiving these sacraments would not have been possible. I can not imagine a Catholic parish without a priest and am very thankful for them.
When my parents first came to St. Paul, they were members of Families with Young Children. During the 40th anniversary celebration they helped by supplying and selling the popular green t-shirts and mugs. During that time my father helped Father Petter form the Parish Pastoral Council and Parish Organization Council. He served as secretary of SPOC and along with Tom Zibton started Donut Sunday and Friday Adoration. He is active in the Men's Club and has served as Vice President and Chaplin. He is a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and has served as Pro-Life chair and still organizes the adult volleyball league. He has been a Boy Scout leader and volunteer.
My mother is a member of the Women's Guild. She has helped with the bazaar and other fund raisers that benefitted the community. For several years she, my brother, my sister, and I helped clean the church. She also volunteered at the school as a tutor, room mother, clinic helper, auction committee chair, and Girl Scout leader. She is a member of the parish and diocesan Pro-Life group and with my father organized the White Rose collection for many years. Currently she works in the Sunday nursery during the 9:15 and 11 am Masses.
Growing up as a member of the St. Paul community, I have had many opportunities to volunteer and learn. As a Cub Scout I helped bus tables during the fish fries, planted trees for Arbor Day, and welcomed the troops home at DFW airport. I have stuffed bulletins and cleaned the church. I have served as an altar server, a reader, a choir member, and usher at mass. I enjoy being a member of the St. Paul Boy Scout troop and currently I am a Star scout. For my Eagle Project I would like to remodel the church nursery. I also participate in the St. Paul youth group. I enjoy the fun activities while learning about my faith. Last summer I did Mission Possible which included visiting an elderly home, helping at Network and the World of Goods, and assisting at the Richardson Animal Shelter. For a confirmation service project, I went to the Hike For Life at Breckinridge Park.
Thank you for considering me for this scholarship. It will help me fulfill my dream of going to Bishop Lynch.
